Winston Churchill once stated: “We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give.”
Real riches don’t come from what we have, but instead come from living a fulfilling life. Nothing is more satisfying in life than making a difference in the lives of others.
Scientifically, giving has been proven beneficial for all of us. Unselfish behavior releases endorphins in the brain that create a feeling of happiness and reduce stress. Giving has also been linked to the release of oxytocin, a hormone that creates intimacy, trust and supports healthy relationships.
Helping others may take time off our calendars or money from our pockets but either may make a real difference between shelter, hunger or even the health or social maturity of those we support.
Giving is contagious and it helps us make a real connection with others and that has more value in our lives than anything else!
“There is not a man of us who does not at times need a helping hand to be stretched out to him, and then shame upon him who will not stretch out the helping hand to his brother.” – Theodore Roosevelt
